Frequently asked questions
Short answers about DuCom's work, the sites we work in and how to reach us.
What does DuCom Electric do?
DuCom Electric is an industrial and commercial electrical contractor based in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. We offer electrical construction, control panel fabrication, process controls and instrument calibration, design-build, procurement and 24-hour emergency service. Customers can use one service or combine several.
Where does DuCom work?
DuCom works at industrial, energy and commercial sites across New England, from our base at 1615 Shawsheen Street, Building 11, in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Call 978-640-0440 to talk about your site.
Do you work in classified hazardous locations?
Yes. DuCom installs and maintains electrical systems in classified hazardous locations, including Class I, Division 1 areas, at bulk fuel and propane terminals, LNG facilities, oil and gas terminals and other industrial sites. We are used to working inside live operations and plan each job around the facility's schedule and safety rules.
Do you offer 24-hour emergency service?
Yes. Our service division provides 24-hour emergency service to troubleshoot and repair power, controls, automation, gas and fire detection, emergency power and lighting systems. Call 978-640-0440.
Can you build a control panel without doing the installation?
Yes. DuCom builds stand-alone control panels in its own panel shop, and also builds panels that our crews install along with the rest of the electrical work. Both get heat-shrink conductor marking, engraved labels and the same build quality.
What instruments do you calibrate?
We calibrate instruments for temperature, pressure, flow and level, and our calibration instruments are NIST traceable. We also install instruments, impulse tubing and the pneumatic supply tubing to control valves.
How do you test new electrical work before start-up?
Every conductor from 120 to 15,000 volts is megger tested after installation, and conductors over 600 volts are hi-pot tested before they are energized. Loop checks and simulations follow, so start-up holds no surprises.
What is design-build, and do you offer it?
Design-build puts the design and the installation under one contract, so one company is responsible for both. DuCom offers it alongside the usual bid-and-build route, with access to qualified consultants. Our design-build projects range from small control systems to a three-story, 150,000 square foot manufacturing facility.
Can you supply the equipment as well as install it?
Yes. DuCom handles procurement through preferred vendors, who supply lighting packages, switchgear, fire alarm systems and emergency generators built to detailed specifications.
Who do you work for?
DuCom works for facility owners and operators, contractors and engineers. We have built long working relationships with all three since 1985.
What kinds of facilities do you work in?
Industrial sites such as manufacturing plants, petroleum storage facilities, natural gas and chemical plants and paper mills. Energy sites such as oil and gas terminals, bulk fuel and propane terminals and LNG facilities. And commercial buildings, including offices, schools, research and development facilities, athletic facilities and computer rooms.
Do you offer preventive maintenance?
Yes. Along with emergency calls, DuCom handles preventive and predictive maintenance, including thermography, and upgrades to existing electrical and control systems.
